MY IDEAS FOR LONDON AND OUR WARD

Innovative Urban Design

New Opportunities

Real Results

Innovative Urban Design to Combat the Affordability Crisis

" I believe that city planning can be more than what it is with innovative design to maximize development sites into smart villages with jobs, entertainment and shopping right where you live. I see developments that house underground parking with parks, multi-use water features, patios, and green space between shops with stacked townhomes and apartments above. A destination for families and friends to meet and play that maximizes urban design and creates affordable, attainable, and subsidized housing, with 25% of housing meeting this goal "

Dealing with the Unhoused

" I believe that we need to take a two tiered approach to dealing with the Unhoused within London.

The first understanding is that not everyone wants to change how they live - for these individuals I propose that we create a large temperature controlled shelter (Airport Hanger, Warehouse) where they can set up their individual camp site, have access to food, water, bathrooms, as well as health and addiction services

The second understanding is that the unhoused that are looking for help are in the situation that they are in for one reason or another and that helping them goes beyond housing.  - For these individuals I propose creating a specialized rehabilitation shelter that offers lessons on life skills from money management and literacy, to shopping, cooking, health care, addictions programming, job training and finally independent housing.

New Opportunities

My goal is to bring new opportunities and business to London. We have one the greatest workforces in the country right here in London and we need to show the world that London is where they need to be! We are ideally situated along the 401 and 402 corridor making shipping throughout North America easily accessible. We need to get on the airplane and go and meet with companies that are on the frontier of new innovations and bring them here to London; go to India, China, Japan, Germany, France, The UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

I want to work with London International Airport and Airlines to bring more destinations to London and open up travel possibilities to Londoners and the surrounding area. I would like to see weekly flights to European destinations like Paris, London, Spain, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, twice a week services to Las Vegas, Florida, New York, as well as major Canadian Cities like Vancouver, Halifax, Calgary, Montreal,

Downtown Vacancy and Revitalization

Dumping money into beautification of the downtown isn't what is going to make our downtown a success. We paved Dundas Street with pavers, but at it's core the main problem still exists. We need to work with landowners to see why these properties are not being rented. Are there issues that can be resolved by council such as: Development Fees, Permits, Application Timelines, Financing, Lack of Parking, Asbestos Abatement, and Heritage Restrictions making progress cost prohibitive. Is it crime, the Unhoused or is there simply a lack business interested in coming to downtown? Perhaps the use of incentives like reduced fees or taxes will help spur life into empty buildings or perhaps punitive measures like withdraws of planning approvals and land rezoning to devalue property is required.
